The Peony Tea House opened in August 2006 by two friends who recognized a need for a truly good and proper teahouse in Fort Wayne. With its delectable desserts, satisfying savories, and blissfully blended teas, the shop opened at The MacDougall House, 503 West Wayne Street in the historic West Central district within a few blocks of downtown.
The MacDougall House is a circa 1885 Queen Anne style designed by well-noted architects Wing & Mahurin. The house was built for M. Charles MacDougall (1863-1945) with its four original fireplaces, elaborate stained glass, and decorative brick exterior reflecting the high style Moorish influences that were popular at the time. Mr. MacDougall originated a shirtwaist factory that later manufactured dresses with The Pollock Bros. He served as vice president and director of People’s Trust & Savings Bank and was very active in civic and social organizations. The house and matching carriage house currently host a collection of creative businesses — and your favorite Tea House on the first floor.
